A More Formal Default Mochi Tone

We’ve rolled out a gigantic upgrade to the Mochi Human Text SaaS platform. For those new, Mochi Human Text is an industry-first tool that automatically turns AI generated text and makes it appear like a human wrote it. Which in turn makes your content far more engaging, relatable, and just plain personal. When we launched, we had just the Mochi tone (which was based off my voice). The Mochi tone was a way to inject a little “fun” and a more casual vibe to your AI-generated content, so that it reads as if a real human wrote it with a real personality. However, obviously this won't work all the time for what you're trying to write. The Mochi tone was a little too casual, not very often but in extremely extremely rare cases, there is even some cussing in the Mochi tone.

We know our customers are a big and diverse set of people with very specific needs so we decided to go ahead and train a new tone that would work for a more “formal” space. Also, not everyone can train their own AI with Mochi, because:

• People on a trial won't have enough credits to train a model
• Not everyone has written the recommended number of words (about ~30K words) to be trained

So now, I'm proud to announce our new Semi-Formal tone so we can solve all of the above.

The Semi-Formal tone is a much more professional and polished way of writing your AI-generated content. Super friendly and approachable still, but all-business. It's an upgrade in that the new Semi-Formal tone is just more... versatile and can be used in more situations that the highly informal Mochi tone.

To make sure we knew our tone worked right, we tested it heavily, and we’re happy to report that our new Semi-Formal tone passes AI detection tests on the least-creative setting for several corpuses.

Here are the results:

• School Essay: 4 out of 5 tests passed. On the one setting that failed the least-creative test, it passed when we turned up the creativity to medium.
• Technical Science: 5 out of 5 passed.
• Financial Niche: 5 out of 5 passed.
• Machine-Learning Related: 5 out of 5 passed.
• Mundane Story: 5 out of 5 passed.

Training a 100% formal tone is a bit challenging. There’s a lot of human-type formal text that sounds like it could have been generated by AI in a lot of cases, so we settled for something that's semi-formal instead. Not too robotic, and not too informal.
